Overview

Mark Vogelbacker helps artists, inventors, small businesses, and large corporations protect their intellectual property (IP) and navigate complex legal challenges.

Before entering the legal profession, Mark worked as a fluid systems engineer at General Dynamics Electric Boat, where he designed and implemented modifications to Ohio-class nuclear-powered submarines. He later served as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office before attending law school at night while working full-time as a patent agent. These experiences taught him to approach problems with precision, efficiency, and a practical mindset—qualities he brings to every client engagement.

Mark’s practice encompasses obtaining and protecting patents, trademarks, and copyrights in the United States and abroad, as well as IP licensing, enforcement, and infringement clearance. He has litigated patent and trade secret disputes across a range of industries, including automotive, medical devices, optics, and apparel, in both federal courts and inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). He has also secured favorable outcomes in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).

In addition to his legal practice, Mark leads the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, overseeing a diverse team of attorneys and business professionals across multiple offices.

Outside the office, Mark volunteers as a coach with FIRST® LEGO® League, a robotics program that introduces elementary and middle school students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
