Overview

John O’Malley is a litigator who focuses his practice on commercial disputes and works to get his clients the best results possible – whether that means aggressively taking a case to trial or resolving the dispute before a lawsuit is ever even filed. John also counsels clients on the best manner to avoid future disputes, including drafting settlement agreements, employment policies, leases, and promissory notes, ensuring compliance with parties’ agreements and applicable law. John handles a wide variety of matters including corporate disputes, commercial landlord/tenant disputes, bet-the-company litigation, personal injury cases, and Constitutional issues. John has served on trial teams as lead counsel and support counsel on a diverse array of matters, with a focus on business tort litigation, commercial disputes, construction disputes and the adjudication of constitutional rights. 

Prior to joining private practice, John served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Chief Judge Roger L. Gregory of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

Interests

When not working, John spends his time hiking the scenic trails of the Shenandoah Valley and walking through the sights and sounds of Richmond with his dog, Ginny. An avid theatregoer, John can often be found checking out new breweries or restaurants in Richmond before catching the latest show at one of Richmond’s many theaters. John also enjoys running, playing basketball, and is a die-hard Washington D.C. sports fan, making sure to make the short trip up to D.C. and catch as many Commanders, Wizards, and Nationals games in person as he can.
