Overview

Gary Matz focuses his practice on Intellectual Property matters. His unique background allows him to work closely with clients, particularly inventors, to identify the unique technical aspects of their inventions and how best to protect them. He also advises business leaders on how best to optimize the value of their technologies.

Gary previously served as Vice President and Chief Patent Counsel at NOVA Chemicals, where he was responsible for the Intellectual Property Group providing support to the various business units within NOVA. Prior to serving as Chief Patent Counsel, Gary served as Senior IP Attorney, focusing primarily on the Styrenics business unit. Throughout his time at NOVA, Gary managed several litigation matters ranging from trade secret violations, IP contract interpretation, and patent infringement. Gary also drafted and negotiated many IP-related agreements, including Joint Development Agreements and Nondisclosure Agreements.

Prior to his time at NOVA, Gary was an associate/patent agent at a boutique IP firm and prior to becoming a registered Patent Agent, held various bench chemist and managerial R&D positions at three different companies.
