Eckert Seamans helps client JetBlue make history

September 2, 2016

Eckert Seamans client JetBlue made history on Wednesday, August 31, when Flight 387 touched down in Santa Clara, Cuba. Departing from Fort Lauderdale, it was the first direct commercial flight between the United States and the island in almost 60 years. U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx was among the historic flight’s 150 passengers.

Eckert Seamans was intimately involved in the arduous process of making JetBlue’s new daily service to Cuba a reality. Our Aviation Group assisted JetBlue in securing operating authority from DOT for scheduled service from the U.S. to multiple points in Cuba. Our team also helped JetBlue secure Cuban operating authority from the Cuban Civil Aviation Administration, address local business issues like opening a branch office, and provided advice on contracting with various Cuban government entities.

Our Aviation Group continues to provide ongoing advice on compliance with U.S. sanctions regime under the Office of Foreign Assets Control, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and Anti-Money Laundering, and import/export controls from the U.S. Department of Commerce.

The legal team serving JetBlue includes Evelyn Sahr, Ed Longosz, Drew DercoDave Laigaie, Josh Hill, Jessica Glajch, Narlu Castellano, Ericia Johnson-Cooper, and Sylvia Bryant.
