Spotlight on . . . Nate Wilks

Nate Wilks joined the firm’s Pittsburgh office in 2012. Nate originally hails from York, Pennsylvania, which is just south of Harrisburg.

As a registered patent attorney, he is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group. His practice covers all aspects of IP law with a focus on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, primarily in the electronic arts, infringement and validity studies, patentability and right-to-use opinions, and litigation support. He prepares and prosecutes patent applications in a wide variety of technologies including, power distribution equipment, anti-counterfeiting measures, printers and copiers, semiconductor devices, electronic displays, hard drives, audio and video signal processing, mobile phones, computer networking, telecommunications, digital rights management, medical imaging, and software.

Prior to attending law school, Nate worked as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry, where he developed antenna systems for unmanned aircraft.

Q&A

What led you to pursue a career in law?

While working as an engineer, I became interested in the various legal aspects of developing and selling a product. This experience led me to pursue a career in law.

What do you enjoy most about your practice?

I enjoy learning about new technologies and working with clients to obtain protection for their ideas.

How do you spend your weekends?

I’m usually working on something around the house or in the yard.

What’s one of your main hobbies?

Skiing.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A firefighter.

What’s your favorite book?

Foundation by Isaac Asimov.
