March 1, 2022

Michelle Grady, who was raised in New York City and continues to call it home, joined our White Plains and Newark offices in 2013. She has an “amazing and supportive” family who have always encouraged her to follow her dreams. With their support, she’s led two distinct and exciting careers as a scientist and lawyer.

Michelle specializes in complex asbestos and mass tort personal injury litigation. She has served as local and national coordinating counsel for a number of companies.  In further defense of these companies, Michelle works closely with company personnel and coordinates discovery throughout the United States to ensure uniformity on behalf of her clients. She has first and second chaired a number of personal injury trials in the courts of New Jersey and New York. She also provides guidance and leadership to many associates, including training in deposition and trial preparation skills.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Michelle enjoyed a career as a scientist for Unilever Best Foods (formerly known as Thomas J. Lipton Company) and Firmenich, an international producer of perfumery and flavor chemicals.

After 10 years working as a Food Scientist at Unilever and Firmenich, combined, I decided to pursue a second career. I chose law because I had an interest in it and believed it to require the same analytical thinking as a scientist. I enjoy problem solving and the practice of law definitely fulfills that requirement.

What do you enjoy most about your practice?

I enjoy working with clients, experts, attending court, depositions, and trials. Of these, cultivating relationships with the various judges in New York is the most enjoyable of aspect of my practice and has proven to be beneficial to our clients.

What is a motto that you live by?

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Who or what inspires you?

My mother.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A doctor.

What makes you laugh?

Riding the NYC subway.

In view of Women’s History Month, who is a woman you admire and why?

The woman I most admire is my mother. She always encouraged me to pursue any dream I had, and she sacrificed a lot to make my dreams come true.
