Q&A

What led you to pursue a career in law?

My undergrad degree was in mechanical engineering. I was one of those few engineering students who enjoyed reading and writing. I would read Twain and Dostoevsky “for fun” in college. In one of my engineering internships, I was given a research project that involved reading a lot of patent literature. I then became intrigued with the area of intellectual property and decided that patent law would likely be a good path for my interests and career aspirations.

What do you enjoy most about your practice?

I love working with creative, innovative people and entrepreneurs. I enjoy helping individuals and businesses extract and leverage value from their creative ideas.

What was your favorite vacation?

Western Caribbean cruise with my wife and kids.

What makes you laugh?

The Simpsons and The Three Stooges.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I have a passion for singing and playing music. My high school class of 330 students voted me “class vocalist” and I was in in the select choir and choral competitions back then. I also play guitar and bass guitar and could get by on keyboards and drums. During college, I was founder of the school’s male a cappella group and I played bass in a duo with a musician who is now semi-famous. I enjoy amateur recording and have recorded many songs where I am the complete band (laying down and overdubbing drum tracks, keyboards, bass, guitar and vocals). I can also play and sing nearly any Beatles song.
