Small Business Advantage Grants

October 10, 2014

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”) is currently accepting applications for Small Business Advantage Grants.  The grant program is funded by the Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act, which receives support from the Capital Stock and Franchise Tax and Act 13 Impact Fee.  The grants will finance pollution prevention and energy efficiency projects.  Eligible projects must save the business: (1) a minimum of $500; and, (2) 25 percent annually in energy consumption or pollution related expenses.  Eligible applicants include a for-profit corporation, limited liability corporation, partnership, sole proprietorship or other legal entity with 100 or fewer full-time employees.  Examples of eligible projects include: energy efficient lighting, high efficiency furnaces, boilers and air conditioners, geothermal heat pumps, and waste recycling systems.  The maximum amount for a grant is $9,500, or 50 percent of total eligible project costs, whichever is less.

Through the Small Business Advantage Grant Program, DEP awarded 133 grants totaling more than $981,000 to Pennsylvania businesses last year.  Current funding is eligible for those costs incurred between October 6, 2014 and June 30, 2015.  Applications are available here.
