Ohio Legalizes Medical Marijuana

June 9, 2016

This week, Ohio Governor John Kasich signed a bill legalizing medical marijuana use for Ohio patients.  In so doing, Ohio has become the 25th state to legalize marijuana for medical purposes.

Notably, the bill limits use to specific medical conditions and does not permit smoking medical marijuana or home cultivation.  The law also restricts the form of medical marijuana to oils, edibles, tinctures, and vapor, all of which must be prescribed by a doctor licensed in the state.

The bill will take effect in 90 days, but it is expected to take two years before Ohio’s medical marijuana program is fully operational.
