IATA is Encouraging all Airlines Operating to the U.S. to Participate in this Proceeding; November 1 Deadline

October 26, 2017

IATA and A4A are encouraging all foreign carriers to submit individual comments in connection with DOT’s regulatory review proceeding.  This is a unique opportunity for the industry to come together to repeal or revise some of the Department’s most burdensome and costly regulations.  Comments are due November 1, 2017.  We have prepared a template comment and would be happy to submit it on your carrier’s behalf, at significant cost savings to your airline.

Whether or not you are interested in filing individually, please provide a rough estimate as to the cost to your airline to comply with DOT’s consumer and disability regulations, including the tarmac delay rule.  The figure does not have to be exact and can be used to support industry-wide filings that are being submitted by IATA and A4A.  For example, a rough estimate of the cost of cancelling a flight (to avoid a tarmac delay penalty) is an important data point as DOT considers which rules to eliminate or modify.

If you are interested in submitting a comment or in submitting cost data on an anonymous basis, please let us know ASAP.  We are happy to answer any questions you may have.

If you have any questions, please contact Evelyn Sahr (esahr@eckertseamans.com, 202-659-6622) or Drew Derco (dderco@eckertseamans.com, 202-659-6665).
