John L. Wertelet

Overview
John Wertelet concentrates his practice on mass tort litigation and product liability matters with a particular emphasis on the discovery of electronically stored information (ESI), otherwise known as electronic discovery or e-discovery. He has 25 years of experience representing large corporations in the preservation, collection, review, and production of electronic evidence in state and federal courts including federal multidistrict litigation and state court consolidated/mass tort actions.
John is responsible for the implementation and management of numerous large scale document production projects involving millions of physical and electronic documents in matters including products liability disputes, patent and trademark infringement, defense of trade secrets, construction law, banking/finance, and government investigations. He has experience using numerous document review platforms including KLDiscovery and Relativity. John’s engagements typically involve identifying the best process for preservation, collection, and document review; serving as the client’s discovery counsel; establishing review protocols and a quality control process for the document review; creating a sufficient and defensible privilege log; drafting discovery responses; drafting summaries and memos for witness preparation; preparing documents for production and coordinating document productions with database vendors.
John also works with the defense team that represents churches, schools, and youth organizations in the defense of lawsuits alleging institutional liability for acts of childhood sexual abuse.

Interests
John serves as a member of the Archangel Gabriel School athletic association and volunteers his free time as an assistant basketball coach with his son’s team. He also has a passion for alpine hiking and mountaineering. John and family enjoy worldwide travel and always try to find time for an epic hike or climb in the mountains.
