Renee Mattei Montgomery, a Harrisburg-based Member at national law firm Eckert Seamans has been recognized with the 2023 Lynette Norton Award by The Pennsylvania Bar Association (PBA) Commission on Women in the Profession (WIP). The Award, which recognizes female attorneys who excel in litigation skills and who are devoted to mentoring young female lawyers, was created in memory of Lynette Norton, a founding member of the Commission who died in 2002.

An alumna of Kings College and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Montgomery is a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment Group where she focuses her law practice on a wide variety of labor and employment matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts throughout Pennsylvania. She defends employers against discrimination claims under Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act. Additionally, she designs and implements training sessions for managers and supervisors on employment law issues and policies.

“The firm is excited to congratulate Renee on this immense honor,” said Clare Gallagher, Vice Chair of Eckert Seamans’ Labor & Employment practice and member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Board of Directors. “Renee is an extremely talented and dedicated member of the legal profession, and we are proud to have her among our strong leaders and mentors at Eckert Seamans.”

Throughout her legal career, Montgomery has been dedicated to the advancement of women in the legal profession. She is a regular participant in various mentoring programs within the firm and the PBA and spent over ten years as Chair of Eckert Seamans’ Associates Committee.

Montgomery is an active member of the PBA, previously serving in many leadership roles within the organization, including co-chair of the WIP Executive Council; mentor in the WIP Mentoring Program; co-chair of the Large Law Firm Committee; member of the WIP Dobbs Ad Hoc Subcommittee; and member of the House of Delegates. She is a prior recipient of a PBA President’s Award and a Dauphin County Bar Association DIVA Award. Michael McAuliffe Miller, Member-In-Charge of Eckert Seamans’ Harrisburg office commented: “For the entirety of the 20 years I have worked with Renee, she has been a constant reminder of the difference between merely having a law license and being a consummate legal professional through a life dedicated to personal and professional service. She deserves this Award, and we could not be prouder of her work.”

Montgomery supports many local organizations, including currently serving on the Board of Directors of Girl Scouts in the Heart of Central Pennsylvania, the Salvation Army Harrisburg WIN (Women INvolved), United Way of the Capital Region Women’s Leadership Network, and the Central PA Food Bank.
