Peter Carr on St. George’s School Investigation (Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly)

January 25, 2016

Boston office Member-in-Charge Peter F. Carr, II spoke with Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly about the decision by St. George’s School to hire a third-party independent investigator to oversee a comprehensive review of sexual abuse at the Rhode Island boarding school. Carr represents independent private schools and private colleges. In the article “Attorneys: New review at St. George’s helpful but not necessary,” Carr says that a new investigation may not have been “absolutely necessary” but under the circumstances couldn’t hurt, and may help identify other potential issues the school may need to address, particularly given the history and age of the allegations. The new investigation “can only serve to protect the interests of all involved,” he says, adding that the interests of the school and the alumni overlap considerably in terms of wanting to pin down the full extent of the problem.
