The Legal Intelligencer features Eckert Seamans attorneys in its “Top Lateral Hires of 2014” roundup

February 24, 2015

Each year, The Legal Intelligencer’s staff combs through its archives, seeks guidance from trusted sources and debates internally the most significant lateral moves of the year. This year, a number of attorneys who have recently joined Eckert Seamans were included in the annual list, which recognizes those who either “had a significant impact on their departing firms, were a big coup for their new employers, created a lot of buzz in the community when they made a move or all of the above.”

Joan N. Stern, Marc S. Stein, Robert I. Tuteur, Dacia A. Haddad, and William T. Benzing III were prominently featured in the list for taking their highly praised public finance practice from Blank Rome to Eckert Seamans at the start of 2014.

“The five partners added a strong Philadelphia component to Eckert Seamans’ public finance team, which already had deep bench strength in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh,” writes The Legal Intelligencer. “Similar to Eckert Seamans’ practice, Stern and her colleagues don’t only represent municipalities and school districts, but also represent private enterprises, sports teams, health care institutions and the financial institutions involved in public-finance deals.”

In addition, The Legal Intelligencer included Gary D. McConnell, a Member of the Pittsburgh office as a runner-up.

“McConnell, who left Bayer as part of a planned retirement transition that began a few years ago, had said he first started talking to law firms ranging in size from two-lawyer shops to global organizations last spring,” writes The Legal Intelligencer. “McConnell had said he ultimately decided to join Eckert Seamans in part because of his previous experience working with the firm in his in-house role.”
