Eckert Seamans announces appointment of Colleen D. Shields to lead Wilmington office

Eckert Seamans has announced the appointment of Colleen D. Shields to the role of Member-in-Charge of its Wilmington office.

Shields has been a trial attorney for more than 20 years. She focuses her practice in the area of civil litigation defending complex cases in the areas of professional negligence, products liability, premises liability, sexual abuse, and general commercial liability. She has represented physicians and individual health care providers in nearly every medical specialty and has tried numerous medical malpractice cases to verdict. Shields also represents community hospitals and academic medical centers in matters involving individual claims as well as class action suits. She is also currently engaged in defending manufacturers in science-driven state and multi-district litigation involving medical devices and pharmaceuticals. In addition to health care professionals, Shields represents individual attorneys and law firms who are involved in civil litigation or who may be facing disciplinary charges. She also has extensive experience in defending and serving as trial counsel to corporations and non-profit organizations in claims of institutional negligence involving allegations of sexual misconduct.

Shields holds a variety of professional affiliations including the Delaware Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association, International Association of Defense Counsel, Defense Research Institute, the Defense Counsel of Delaware, the Delaware Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, International Society of Barristers, and the Padua Academy Board of Trustees.

She earned her J.D., cum laude at Widener University Delaware Law School and her bachelor’s degree at the University of Delaware.
