March 24, 2021

Eckert Seamans is pleased to welcome Associate Gillian A. Cooper to the firm’s Philadelphia office. She represents management in employment litigation matters before federal and state courts and agencies, defending both single- and multi-plaintiff lawsuits involving Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and related state statutory and common law causes of action.

Cooper draws on this litigation experience to counsel employers on preventative practices to minimize workplace disputes and workforce reductions. She develops employee handbooks and company policies across many industries, including accommodation, harassment, vaccination, drug testing, bring your own device (BYOD), and social media policies. Employers look to Cooper for advice on personnel actions, including drafting employment agreements and conducting internal investigations on various workplace matters. Her practice is enhanced by her human resources consulting experience, where she provides support to legal and human resources departments on short- or long-term arrangements.

Cooper also develops and provides employment law training on topics such as implementing equal employment opportunity practices and preventing sexual harassment, achieving diversity objectives, and enforcing policies involving discipline and leaves of absence under the FMLA and ADA.

Cooper, who joins from Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr, earned her J.D. from Rutgers Law School (2012) and B.A., also from Rutgers University (2009). She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Before joining private practice, Cooper served as a law clerk for the Honorable Paulette M. Sapp-Peterson and the Honorable Lawrence M. Lawson of the Superior Court of New Jersey. She is active in the community through her affiliation with Dress for Success Central New Jersey.
