Eckert Seamans is pleased to welcome Member (partner) Daniel J. Melman to the firm’s expanding US intellectual property litigation practice. He is an experienced intellectual property litigation and trial attorney, with a focus on patents, trade secrets, and other complex matters across various technologies and industries. Melman joins Eckert Seamans in White Plains, New York, from the law firm of Pearl Cohen.

“The IP challenges facing high growth industry companies are increasingly complex, requiring business-minded litigators to help them protect value as they pursue growth,” said Philip E. Levy, Chair of Eckert Seamans’ Intellectual Property department. “Daniel is an exceptional IP litigator with in-depth experience across various technology sectors. His arrival strengthens our IP litigation team as we continue to grow to serve our clients’ evolving needs.”

“Our trial lawyers are known for developing innovative solutions tailored to meet our clients’ most complex legal challenges. Daniel shares our passion for creativity and client service, and his versatility across industries and venues, technical background, and experience providing detail-oriented counsel make him a wonderful addition to Eckert Seamans’ roster,” added Steven R. Kramer, Member-in-Charge of Eckert Seamans’ White Plains, New York office.

“I was attracted to Eckert Seamans’ continuing growth story and robust performance,” said Melman. “The opportunity to collaborate with my new colleagues, both here in New York and across the firm, is exhilarating as I continue to expand my practice.”

Over the past 20 years, Melman’s practice has focused on the protection and enforcement of intellectual property assets and defending clients against claims of infringement. He has taken lead roles in all aspects and phases of litigation, trials, and appeals in federal courts throughout the United States, in the United States Patent Office, and in the International Trade Commission, as well as coordinating multinational parallel litigation proceedings.

As a summa cum laude graduate of St. John’s University School of Law with a degree in mechanical engineering from NYU Tandon School of Engineering (Polytechnic Institute), Melman is uniquely qualified to deal with the complex technical issues surrounding patents, trade secrets, and other intellectual property issues. Before attending law school, he worked as an engineer at a Fortune 1000 hi-tech company in Long Island.

Melman is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as well as the US Court of Appeals for the Federal and Second Circuits, and the US District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the Eastern District of Texas.

Melman also contributes his time towards pro bono activities and organizations including the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. In addition, he has served as a guest lecturer on IP rights for innovators and entrepreneurs.

Eckert Seamans’ Intellectual Property team provides nationally-respected counsel to protect clients’ intellectual property from potential disputes, but there are times when litigation is necessary. When these situations arise, the firm’s clients rely on the expertise of Eckert Seamans’ intellectual property litigators, who have successfully litigated patent, trade secret, trademark, trade dress, license, copyright, and service mark cases before various US district courts, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the Supreme Court of the United States, state courts, and administrative agencies such as the International Trade Commission.
