Eckert Seamans’ Teufel Honored by King’s College
The national law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott, LLC is very
pleased to announce that attorney Gregory H. Teufel was recently bestowed
with King’s College’s Alumni Award for Service to Society.
Mr. Teufel has provide services to various nonprofit organizations and
charitable causes. Most notably, he has served on the legal advisory
committee for Patient Advocates for Advanced Cancer Treatments (“PAACT”), a
national organization consisting primarily of prostate cancer victims.
Serving as a member of the legal advisory committee since 1995 and chair since
1999, Mr. Teufel has assisted PAACT members with insurance coverage
problems. Also in that role, he has lobbied Medicare and private insurers
to provide reasonable coverage for advanced cancer treatments and to expand the
range of treatment options for cancer victims. Given his dedication and
advocacy efforts on behalf of the sick, he has garnered a national reputation
for his work among prostate cancer victims, their families and the associated
healthcare providers and device manufacturers, including being mentioned in the
best-selling book, Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery.
In addition to his efforts with PAACT, Mr. Teufel has also participated in a
number of Allegheny County Bar Association pro bono programs, including the Very
Important Papers program, providing senior citizens with information on the
importance and benefits of wills, living wills, and powers of attorney; the
Protection from Abuse program, representing indigent abuse victims; and the
Custody Conciliation program, assisting indigent families resolve child custody
disputes amicably. He also served six years on the board and provides pro
bono legal work and other volunteer and fundraising efforts for Rainbow Kitchen
Community Services, a charitable organization which provides a variety of
anti-hunger programs and other social services to low income families in
Pittsburgh. Additionally, Mr. Teufel has
participated in a variety of charitable volunteer projects through Pittsburgh
Cares, a group that coordinates volunteers for projects for hundreds of
different charitable organizations in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Teufel is a Member of Eckert Seamans’ Litigation Division. He
focuses his practice on outside general counsel work and commercial litigation,
including breach of contract disputes, construction litigation, employee
benefits matters, employment disputes and product liability claims. He has
trial experience in state and federal courts in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and has also handled AAA
arbitrations. His appellate experience includes arguing before the
Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Mr. Teufel earned his law degree, cum
laude, from the University of Michigan Law School in 1994 and his
undergraduate degree in Computer Science, magna cum laude, from King’s
College in 1991. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and West
Virginia and before the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of
Appeals for the Third Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Northern and
Southern Districts of West Virginia and the Western and Middle Districts of
Pennsylvania.
