Eckert Seamans Attorneys Serve as Faculty at Pennsylvania Bar Institute 2nd Annual Intellectual Property Law Institute
The national law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott, LLC announced
that attorneys Wendy West Feinstein and Roberta Jacobs-Meadway
recently served as faculty at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute 2nd
Annual Intellectual Property Law Institute, held April 17 and April
18 in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. Timothy P.
Ryan served as a course planner and is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar
Institute’s Intellectual Property Advisory Committee.
Ms. West Feinstein presented the ”IP Damages” session, which examined damages
in patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret litigation.
Ms. Jacobs-Meadway, along with the Honorable David M. Mermelstein,
Administrative Trademark Judge, United States Patent & Trademark Office,
Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and Fred W. Hathaway, Esq. of Buchanan
Ingersoll & Rooney PC, lectured on the subject of “TTAB Practice & New
Rules”. The session focused on practicing before the Trademark Trial and
Appeal Board and specifically, the new rules that took effect in late 2007
pertaining to pretrial practices, namely, service of initial pleadings,
mandatory conferences and disclosures and discovery. The session also
included a discussion of the new Accelerated Case Resolution (ACR)
provisions.
Ms. West Feinstein focuses her practice on complex business and commercial
litigation, including the representation of public and private corporations and
partnerships, non-profit corporations and national banking institutions in a
wide variety of matters including contract disputes, business torts,
intellectual property disputes and class action defense. She represents
clients in federal and state courts at the trial and appellate level. She
also represents clients in alternative dispute resolution such as arbitration
proceedings before American Arbitration Association panels, and private and
court directed mediation. Ms. West Feinstein has been recognized by
Pennsylvania
SuperLawyers® in 2005, 2006 and 2007 as a Rising Star.
She holds an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Ms. Jacobs-Meadway focuses her practice on trademark, copyright, unfair
competition law and related licensing and litigation in the federal courts and
before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She has also served as
mediator in numerous trademark and copyright disputes. Frequently praised
for her expertise in the discipline of intellectual property law, Ms.

Mr. Ryan is the Chief Executive Officer of the firm and a Member of the
firm’s Litigation Division. He has a broad range of experience in
commercial, business and regulatory litigation, covering matters such as patent,
trademark, copyright infringement, licensing, franchising, unfair competition,
contracts, RICO, securities fraud and toxic exposure issues. During the
past twenty years, Mr. Ryan has focused his practice primarily on the litigation
of intellectual property and business tort disputes. He has represented a
wide variety of clients in matters involving patents, trademarks, trade dress,
copyrights, trade secrets, unfair competition claims, licenses and
franchises. Mr. Ryan is one of the attorneys who represented petitioners
in the landmark Markman case at trial and before the Federal Circuit and the
Supreme Court of the United
States. The case involved the
constitutional right to jury trial of disputes involving the construction of
patent claim terms. Mr. Ryan has tried cases in numerous federal and state
courts across the country. He also has extensive experience in trying
cases before administrative agencies and arbitration panels. He is listed

is a member of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County. Mr. Ryan
