Eckert Seamans Attorney Serves as Co-Chair of ALI-ABA Seminar
The national law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott, LLC today
announced that attorney Roberta Jacobs-Meadway recently served as
co-chair of the American Law Institute-American Bar Association (“ALI-ABA”)
seminar, Litigating Trademark, Internet, and Unfair Competition Cases,
held February 28 and 29 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Ms. Jacobs-Meadway served as the course co-planner along with Lester L.
Hewitt of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP. The two-day course
focused on current developments and hot issues in trademark, unfair competition,
and internet-related litigation. The itinerary consisted of 14 hours of
instruction conducted by a group of international professionals, including
top-tier litigators, academics and a judge.
In addition, Ms. Jacobs-Meadway served on the faculty of the seminar,
lecturing on the subject of “Who's Likely to be Confused? What is the
Relevance of Confusion Not of Purchasers and Not at Point of Sale”. The
session, focused on trademark infringement issues, sought to provide answers to
such questions as: what is evidence of actual confusion that a court will
credit; how much evidence is enough: how do you find it?
Recently, along with fellow Eckert Seamans attorney Karen Lee “Kitt”
Turner, Ms. Jacobs-Meadway spoke at ALI-ABA’s seminar, Intellectual
Property Licensing Today, on avoiding bankruptcy pitfalls in intellectual
property licensing matters.
Ms. Jacobs-Meadway focuses her practice on trademark, copyright, unfair
competition law and related licensing and litigation in the federal courts and
before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. She has also served as
mediator in numerous trademark and copyright disputes. Frequently praised
for her expertise in the discipline of intellectual property law, Ms.
Jacobs-Meadway has been recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers
for Business as one of the “Leaders in Their Field” in the area of
intellectual property law in the 2003 through 2007 editions. She is ranked
in the top tier of intellectual property attorneys in Pennsylvania and is referred to as “the preeminent
trademark attorney in Pennsylvania.” The publication also
wrote, “According to interviewees ‘no one in the city knows more about
copyright’ than Roberta Jacobs-Meadway.” She has also been honored by
Law & Politics Magazine and Philadelphia Magazine among the
“Top 50 Women Pennsylvania Super Lawyers” and is also a “Pennsylvania Super
Lawyer” in the area of intellectual property law for 2007. Law Business
Research Ltd. named her to the “International Who’s Who of Trademark
Lawyers.” Ms. Jacobs-Meadway earned her law degree from Rutgers University
of School of Law and her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College.
