Eckert Seamans Receives Pro Bono Award from the ACBA

Firm paralegal Rachel Klink to receive Paralegal Services Award

The national law firm Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott, LLC today announced that it is the recipient of the 2006 Law Firm Pro Bono Award from the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA).  The award, which will be presented at the ACBA’s Tenth Annual Fellows Dinner on Thursday, October 18, 2007, is in recognition of the firm’s administration of the Custody Conciliation Project, which Eckert Seamans developed in connection with the Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership.

In conjunction with this award to the firm, the ACBA will also honor the work of Eckert Seamans paralegal Rachel Klink, whose service to the Custody Conciliation Project  has earned her the 2006 Paralegal Service Award, which she will receive at the Fellows Dinner.

“This is a tremendous honor to our people for their part in establishing and administering the Custody Conciliation project, which provides free legal representation to parents in custody conciliations in AlleghenyCounty,” said Tim Ryan, Chief Executive Officer of Eckert Seamans.  “Before this project, economically disadvantaged families involved in custody disputes most often had no representation, which led to fewer agreements prior to costly, time-consuming and sometimes volatile custody litigation.  As a result of this project, more Allegheny County families have reached custody agreements during the conciliation stage and have avoided litigation.”

Eckert Seamans is a board member of the Pittsburgh Pro Bono Partnership, a group of law firms and corporate legal departments that collaborate to increase pro bono legal services in Southwestern Pennsylvania by developing signature pro bono projects that provide needed legal services to persons of limited means in the community.  The Custody Conciliation project was implemented as part of the Partnership and involves the work of Eckert Seamans attorneys and lawyers from throughout AlleghenyCounty.

In June, Eckert Seamans attorney Sarah L. Shannon received the 2007 Pro Bono Award from the Pennsylvania Bar Association for her work on the Custody Conciliation project.
