Eckert Seamans Attorneys Volunteer at Family Resources
The national law firm of Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott, LLC today
announced that on October 14,
2006, over 25 attorneys volunteered at Family Resources. The
group, led by the managing partner of Eckert Seamans’ Pittsburgh office,
Scott
Cessar, carried out a number of construction and landscaping
projects at the Family Retreat Center in Mars,
Pennsylvania.
The firm has been sending a group of volunteers to do service projects at
Family Resources for the past several years. The event is based on a
softball game between the firm’s associates and partners; the losing team is
designated as the volunteers, but players from both teams end up serving for the
day. The partners won this year’s game. Partners, associates, and
their friends and family all pitched in to volunteer.
“We appreciate the efforts of our volunteers like those from Eckert
Seamans. Their assistance helps us to improve upon what we do and focus
our efforts on the family,” stated Jack Stockman, Operations Supervisor with
Family Resources.
“It is a great opportunity to give back to the community, and what better
thing to do than to assist a facility which strives to make families whole,”
said Scott Cessar. “Eckert Seamans is happy to lend their support and make
this small contribution to such a great
organization.”
John
Myers, captain of the partners’ team, said, “In the spirit of
competition, it was great to have the partners beat the associates. We
really expected them to give us more of a fight. Those of us who have been
around the block a few times didn’t have to run around the bases much, for which
we were grateful.”
Mike
Herzog, captain of the associates’ team, said, “The associates were
happy to lose the game if it meant that we would be helping out at Family
Resources. In truth, I think everyone has a much better time volunteering
for the day than they do playing the softball game.”
Family Resources combats child abuse and provides support
and treatment services to families in Western
Pennsylvania. They treat the whole family -- the perpetrators
of violence as well as the victims. Each year, approximately 8,000
parents, children and teenagers attend activities at Family Resources’
Family Retreat
Center. The facility
offers special opportunities to work on family issues in a natural setting.
