John H. Williams, Jr., is a Member in the firm’s Litigation and Appellate Practice Groups.  He focuses his practice on Insurance Coverage Law, Mass Tort Law, Product Liability, and Contracts, as well as Appellate Practice in many areas of law.

Mr. Williams’ Insurance Law practice includes litigation of insurance coverage claims, providing coverage opinions and analysis of various coverages under Commercial Property, CGL, E&O, D&O and surplus lines policies.  In 2006, Mr. Williams lead a case against one of the world's largest insurers and secured what is believed to be the largest punitive damage award ever rendered in Pennsylvania against an insurer.  This year, he successfully handled the appeal as well.  Additionally, Mr. Williams presents lectures and seminars for practitioners and insurance carriers regarding issues of Insurance Coverage and Bad Faith.

Mr. Williams practices regularly before state and federal appellate courts.  As lead counsel in more than fifty appeals, Mr. Williams has represented manufacturers, law firms, judges, local governments, insurance companies, insurance policy holders and individuals before all of the appellate courts of Pennsylvania, including the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, as well as the Supreme Courts of West Virginia and Ohio.  Mr. Williams also regularly represents clients before the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Fourth Circuit, and he has represented clients before the United States Supreme Court on three occasions.  Before the appellate courts, Mr. Williams addressed such issues as insurance coverage and bad faith, Civil Rights, ERISA Preemption, Product Liability Law, Federal Jurisdiction, Appellate Jurisdiction, Legal Malpractice, Insurance Coverage, State and Federal Civil Procedure, Federal Criminal Procedure, Competence and Admissibility of Expert Testimony, and many other topics.
