Gregory H. Teufel is a Member of the firm in the Litigation Division. He focuses his practice on outside general counsel work and commercial litigation, including breach of contract disputes, construction litigation, employee benefits matters, employment disputes and product liability claims. Mr. Teufel has trial experience in state and federal courts in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and has also handled AAA arbitrations. His appellate experience includes arguing before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.Mr. Teufel’s broad base of experience includes serving as outside general counsel to several companies, assisting with evaluating, prioritizing and addressing a wide variety of legal needs. In addition to handling litigation matters, he has assisted with new business formation and negotiating and drafting agreements and policies.
In the commercial litigation side of his practice, Mr. Teufel has litigated on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants in contract disputes over issues such as material breach, mitigation, damages and the economic loss doctrine in many cases such as those involving software development, sale of goods, insurance and high-stakes real estate transactions.
Mr. Teufel has also represented owners, contractors and architects in construction litigation involving scope of work, extra work, quality of work and delay damages, ranging from small matters to multi-million dollar disputes.
In the area of employment law, Mr. Teufel has handled a variety of matters, including employee benefits disputes over benefits eligibility and calculation, fiduciary duties, disclosure requirements, preemption, prohibited transactions, qualified domestic relations orders, attorney fee awards and civil penalties. Additionally, he has represented employers in suits involving theft of trade secrets and breach of noncompetition agreements, alleged racial and gender discrimination and sexual harassment. Mr. Teufel has also assisted companies with drafting and revising employee handbooks, compensation policies and severance agreements.
Mr. Teufel has also been active in the defense of product liability claims, representing product manufacturers and sellers in significant litigation involving medical devices and industrial machinery. He has also defended claims alleging liability for harm caused by toxic exposures, including claims alleging harm caused by asbestos.
Active in the community, Mr. Teufel regularly handles pro bono custody conciliation matters and also serves as chair of the Legal Advisory Committee for Patient Advocates for Advanced Cancer Treatments (“PAACT”). In addition, he writes a legal column for PAACT’s quarterly newsletter. Mr. Teufel also has served as a board member, legal adviser and volunteer for Rainbow Kitchen Community Services, an anti-hunger charitable organization. For his service to the profession and the community, Mr. Teufel was named one of Pennsylvania’s “Lawyers on the Fast Track” by American Lawyer Media in 2006. In 2008, Mr. Teufel was bestowed with the King’s College Alumni Award for Service to Society for his dedication and service to various nonprofit organizations and charitable causes.
