Thomas J. Sweeney, Jr., is a Member of the firm.  He serves on the firm’s Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.

Mr. Sweeney's practice is concentrated in the area of product liability defense and commercial litigation.  He has extensive courtroom experience in both state and federal courts and has established a national trial practice having served as lead trial counsel in more than 40 states.  His practice encompasses the defense of automobile manufacturers, industrial machine/equipment manufacturers and manufacturers of various other consumer products.  He has also litigated life insurance coverage/ERISA, professional liability and aviation matters.

Mr. Sweeney is an active member of the Product Liability Advisory Council (PLAC).  He has served on the Product Liability Committee for both the Defense Research Institute and the Pennsylvania Defense Institute (PDI).  He has lectured on topics related to product liability litigation and trial tactics for PLAC, Pennsylvania Bar Institute (PBI) and the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County.

He is a member of the bar associations of the American Bar (Civil Litigation Section and Product Liability Committee, and the Torts Insurance Practice Section, Consumer Protection and Safety Committee), Pennsylvania Bar (Litigation Section, Product Liability Committee and Committee on Evidence and Trial Tactics) and Allegheny County Bar (Litigation and Federal Court Section).  He is also a Fellow of the Allegheny County Bar Association.   Mr. Sweeney is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ireland Institute of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Sweeney is listed in The Best Lawyers in America for product liability litigation.  He has been recognized by his peers for several years as one of Pennsylvania's Super Lawyers^®, ranking in the top five percent of attorneys practicing in the state.  He holds an AV^® rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
