Arnold B. Silverman is a Member in the Intellectual Property Department.
Mr. Silverman has specialized in intellectual property law since 1962 and has experience in all phases of the specialty and in a wide range of technologies. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the Canadian Patent Office. He is also one of approximately 50 attorneys in the United States elected to membership in The British Chartered Institute of Patent Agents. He has advised clients from a broad range of industries and universities on such matters as patent, trademark, copyright, trade secrets, technology licensing, infringement disputes, litigation and other United States and foreign intellectual property issues, entertainment, arts and sports law issues, publishing contracts and computer law.
Mr. Silverman is a member and past chairman of the Allegheny County Bar Association's Intellectual Property Section and served as that group's representative to the National Council of Patent Law Associations. He is also a member and has served on intellectual property related committees of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the International Trademark Association, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the American Chemical Society. He is a past president of the Pittsburgh Intellectual Property Law Association, and is on the National Panel of Arbiters for the American Arbitration Association.
Mr. Silverman is an emeritus member of the Association of Corporate Patent Counsel. He has served as Co-Chair of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Licensing Executives Society and the Co-Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Sport, Arts and Entertainment Committee. He is the subject of biographies in Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in America, and Who's Who in the World. Mr. Silverman has served as a guest lecturer in intellectual property matters at the Carnegie Mellon University Graduate School of Management and in sports law at the University of Pittburgh School of Law. He is the author of over 70 articles on patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.
Mr. Silverman served for 10 years on the Executive Board of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law Alumni Association and has served as President of the Law Alumni Association.
Mr. Silverman has been recognized by his peers as one of Pennsylvania's Super Lawyer® each year from 2004 to 2008, ranking in the top five percent of attorneys practicing in the state. Mr. Silverman holds an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
