Mr. Shienvold is a member in the firm's Litigation Division. He focuses his practice on civil litigation, with emphasis on commercial and business litigation, product liability and personal injury defense. Mr. Shienvold has represented clients in matters relating to commercial contract disputes, products liability (including industrial, consumer and pharmaceutical products), construction and surety litigation, premises liability, lender liability, civil RICO, consumer protection, land use disputes, employment disputes, post-employment restrictive covenants, commercial leasing disputes, securities and investment fraud, inter-municipal disputes and shareholder derivative litigation before state and federal trial and appellate courts, as well as in arbitration.
In addition to his civil litigation practice, Mr. Shienvold regularly represents businesses and professional licensees before state administrative agencies and licensing boards. Mr. Shienvold has successfully represented clients before the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, the State Ethics Commission, the Pennsylvania Securities Commission, the State Insurance Department, the State Board of Nursing, the State Board of Medicine, the State Board of Veterinary Medicine, the State Board of Accountancy, the State Board of Education, the Bureau of Commissions, Elections and Legislation, and the Department of Labor and Industry. Mr. Shienvold also represented a major telecommunications carrier in adversarial proceedings before the Public Utilities Commission.
Drawing on his broad civil litigation experience, Mr. Shienvold teaches continuing legal education courses for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, the continuing legal education arm of the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and recently was invited to moderate a CLE seminar on Document Retention and Destruction in the Age of Electronic Documents. Mr. Shienvold is an active member of the Dauphin County Bar Association, where he served as 2006 chair of the Young Lawyers’ Section. Mr. Shienvold is a graduate of Leadership Harrisburg Area, a nine-month leadership training program focusing on the development of community leaders. He also serves on the board of directors of the Arthritis Foundation, Central Pennsylvania Chapter.
