Edward G. O'Connor is a Senior Counsel in the firm’s Litigation Division. He has been involved in a broad range of commercial and product liability litigation, including representation of manufacturers of various products such as automobiles, passenger and truck tires and rims, hospital equipment, steel tubing products and drug and prescription devices. He has handled on a national basis coordination of products liability litigation in the automobile passenger tire industry, and on a regional basis, products liability litigation involving asbestos and IUD products.
Mr. O'Connor has represented public accounting firms on a number of matters including defense of claims arising out of professional liability.
In addition, he has handled antitrust litigation in defense of Sherman Act and Robinson-Patman Act cases, litigation involving termination of automobile dealers' franchises, actions involving insurance losses under commercial and personal homeowner's policies, commercial litigation for breach of contract, and litigation dealing with securities law violations.
He is a past member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County, the House of Delegates of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Board of Governors of the Allegheny County Bar Association. Mr. O'Connor has also been a member of the Advisory Committee on Appellate Court Rules of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania (1986-1992), and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Civil Procedural Rules Committee (1998-2004). He is a fellow of the American, Pennsylvania, and Allegheny County Bar Foundations, a member of the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations, and has been a lecturer for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. He is a past Chair of the Fellows Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation. He previously served on the Judiciary Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association having been elected to that Committee in 2002 for a three-year term of office. He serves as a Trustee of the Allegheny County Bar Foundation.
Active in academic and community affairs, Mr. O'Connor served on the Hampton Township Planning Commission from 1984-1990, serving as Chair from 1986-1988, and received the Distinguished Service Award from Hampton Township. He currently is serving on the Hampton Township Zoning Hearing Board and is a former Chair of that Board. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus by Duquesne University School of Law, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from both the Duquesne Law Review and Duquesne Law Alumni Association, was inducted into the Century Club of Distinguished Alumnus and received the McAnulty Service Award from Duquesne University. Mr. O’Connor was designated a “Champion of Justice” with a Caritas Award of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh in 2003. In addition, the Allegheny County Bar Foundation (ACBF) Fellows Program awards an honorary, annual fellows memberghip in the name of Mr. O'Connor. The fellows program recognizes attorneys who have shown a commitment to excellence in charitable, community, professional and public service activities.
Mr. O'Connoris a director and member of the Audit and Compliance Committees of Federated Investors, Inc., a former director of Duquesne University (1995-2007) and a former member of the Executive Committee of the Board and Chair of the Student Life Committee of the Board. He is a former trustee of the Noble J. Dick Educational Foundation. He previously served on the St. Francis Health System Board of Directors (1899-2000), and on the Board of Directors of St. Francis Plaza, Inc., a government subsidized high-rise for the elderly and low-income individuals. He serves as Counsel for the Sisters of St. Francis of Millvale, PA.
