John F. (“Jack”) Meck is a Member in the Business Division. He has a substantial practice in probate, trust and tax litigation, and beneficiary representation, as well as a broad traditional practice in the areas of trust and estate planning and administration (including related personal income, death and corporate tax issues).
Mr. Meck regularly handles difficult estate administrations as well as complex and emotional disputes in probate and trust litigation, ranging from Will Contest and other family disputes over estate and trust administration; representing fiduciaries, both corporate and individual, with respect to accounting, distribution, investment performance and removal issues; trust interpretation questions; elective share calculations; charitable interests; to being appointed as a Master by the Court in a complex tax apportionment matter.
In addition, Mr. Meck specializes in sophisticated tax situations for estate and post mortem planning, including S corporations and generation skipping tax, often developing creative solutions.
Mr. Meck is listed in the current and past editions of The Best Lawyer in America®. In every year since 2004, he has been named one of the "Top 50 Super Lawyers in Pittsburgh." He has also been recognized by his peers as one of Pennsylvania's Super Lawyers® each year from 2004 to 2008, ranking among the top five percent of attorneys practicing in the state. He holds an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
A Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel since 1991, he also is the State Chair for Pennsylvania. Mr. Meck is a member of the Fiduciary Litigation Committee.
He is a member of the Pennsylvania Joint State Government Commission’s Advisory Committee on Decedent’s Estates Law, a group of non-legislators drawn from the bench and probate bar to draft and advise on legislation in the field.
Mr. Meck is a Past Chairman of the Probate and Trust section of the Allegheny County Bar Association.
Mr. Meck has served as Vice President of the Fox Chapel District Association, and has been a thespian participant in the Fox Chapel Follies.
