C. Kent May is a senior corporate lawyer who has directed legal services in corporate transactions for a wide range of domestic and international clients.  These include companies in manufacturing, chemicals, information technology, health care and engineering.  He also has longstanding engagements in the technology, services, mining, sports and entertainment, and retailing industries. 

An experienced manager, Mr. May was a member of Eckert Seaman’s executive committee for more than a decade and served as the firm’s managing partner, administrative partner and corporate department chairman, among other roles.  In four years as managing partner, he led the firm’s expansion into multiple cities.

Corporate Law

He has led legal teams in scores of acquisitions, mergers and leveraged buyouts and represented both lenders and borrowers in financing transactions involving billions of dollars.  Recently, he has represented the receiver in several Federal and State court receiverships.  He has also represented numerous foreign companies in connection with their investments in the U.S.  He is a frequent speaker to professional and corporate audiences on loan transactions, lender liability, officers’ and directors’ liability, letters of intent, confidentiality agreements and other corporate topics.

Related Activities

In conjunction with his corporate law practice, Mr. May served as senior vice president, general counsel and a director of Anchor Glass Container Corporation and as a director of Fabrica de Envases de Vidrio S.A. de C.V., a Mexican glass container manufacturer.  He was also a director and a member of the audit committee of Universal Compression Holdings Inc., a New York Stock Exchange listed company.  He currently serves as a manager and secretary of Main Street Capital Holdings, L.L.C., a merchant banking firm.  He has previously served as a director of Consumers Packaging Inc. of Canada, Glenshaw Glass Company, Wultex USA, Inc. and Winster USA, Inc., subsidiaries of U.K. mining-equipment companies, and Kerametal USA Inc, a subsidiary of Kerametal Foreign Trading Ltd., of the Slovak Republic.

Sports and Entertainment

Having long served professional sports teams and others in the sports and entertainment industry, Mr. May was appointed by Governor Tom Ridge to chair the 15-member Pennsylvania Sports and Exposition Facilities Task Force, charged with recommending legislation to structure the Commonwealth’s participation in stadium, arena and other public-facility projects.  In the 1980s Mr. May was instrumental in forming a coalition of professionals that helped keep the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball franchise in Pittsburgh.

Other Activities and Education

A former chairman of the board of The Better Business Bureau of Western Pennsylvania, Mr. May has been active in business, civic and charitable organizations.  He has served on the boards of the Children’s Home of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Public Theater, the Mendelssohn Choir, the Mario Lemieux Foundation and the John Ghaznavi Foundation, among other organizations.  He currently is a member of the Advisory Council of the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine.
