John G. Loughnane is a Member in the firm’s Business Division. His practice focuses on representing individual and business clients in a broad array of general corporate, business restructuring and technology licensing matters.
Mr. Loughnane has negotiated, drafted and implemented complex technology licenses, development and distribution agreements and a variety of other commercial agreements. He has advised healthcare technology vendors and developers of medical device and life sciences technology with respect to their commercial matters. He has also advised health care providers and technology transfer officers on licensing and commercialization arrangements.
Mr. Loughnane has also negotiated a variety of financing and strategic transactions, many of which have involved distressed circumstances, both in and out of court. He has represented purchasers of assets, restructuring companies and holders of intellectual property rights, among others. This commercial restructuring and bankruptcy work has involved a variety of industries including technology, life sciences, health care, professional services, retail, real estate and manufacturing.
Active in the profession, Mr. Loughnane has written and lectured extensively on numerous business and technology topics for a variety of organizations, including the Boston Bar Association, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, American Bankruptcy Institute and the Associated Industries of Massachusetts. He is a member of the American, Massachusetts and Boston bar associations, as well as the American Bankruptcy Institute, Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Turnaround Management Association. Mr. Loughnane also serves on the Board of Editors of The Boston Bar Journal, the flagship publication of the Boston Bar Association.
Mr. Loughnane is very active in community affairs, serving as a Corporate Trustee for The Trustees of Reservations and by helping to form and lead the group's Conservation Council. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Holy Cross Lawyers Association and previously was President of the Holy Cross Club of Boston. In addition, he is a volunteer and leader in youth sports and scouting organizations.
Mr. Loughnane received his law degree with honors from the George Washington University School of Law, where he served as the editor of the Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree from the College of the Holy Cross. After graduating from law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ronald R. Lagueux of the U.S. District Court, District of Rhode Island.
Mr. Loughnane has been recognized by his peers as one of Massachusetts' Super Lawyers® each year from 2005 to 2007, ranking among the top five percent of attorneys practicing in the state. He also holds an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
