Grant E. Coffield is an Associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property Department. His practice covers all aspects of intellectual property law, including the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, infringement and validity studies, patentability and right-to-use opinions, licensing matters and trademark and copyright issues. As a registered patent attorney, Mr. Coffield has extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in a variety of technical fields, with a specialty in the mechanical arts. He also has experience advising clients with respect to intellectual property assets that are the subject of commercial transactions including, among other things, the negotiation of licenses and due diligence investigations.
Intellectual property often forms the foundation of a successful company. Mr. Coffield has helped clients to build such a foundation by providing them with the expertise to establish and manage an effective intellectual property portfolio both domestically and throughout the world.
Mr. Coffield earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1999. He was inducted into the Pi Tau Sigma and Tau Beta Pi engineering honor societies and was a member of the Big East All-Academic Team as a letterman on the varsity football team.
Mr. Coffield earned his law degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2002, where he was a managing editor of the University of Pittsburgh Journal of Law and Commerce and a member of the Intellectual Property and Technology Law Society.
Mr. Coffield has published numerous articles on a variety of intellectual property subjects. He’s been recognized by Pennsylvania SuperLawyers in 2006 and 2007 as a Rising Star.
