Albert G. Bixler is a Member in the firm's Litigation Division. He also serves as the Member-in-Charge of the Philadelphia office and is a member of the firm’s Board of Directors.
Mr. Bixler represents clients in matters ranging from environmental claims to professional negligence and bankruptcy litigation. He has extensive experience in personal injury, insurance coverage, product liability, toxic tort, class action and “mass tort” matters.
Mr. Bixler represents pharmaceutical manufacturers in product liability litigation and has served as defense liaison counsel in mass tort litigation in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. He has defended a manufacturer of an over-the-counter medication and a manufacturer of a prescription drug in several thousand suits pending in both federal and state courts.
In the environmental area, his cases have included prosecution of one of the first major cases under the Pennsylvania Hazardous Sites Cleanup Act, prosecution and defense of CERCLA cost recovery actions, prosecution of Underground Storage Tank Act cases and defense of environmental contamination cases alleging personal injury and property damages.
In commercial matters, his cases have included representation of a multinational chemical company in connection with breach of warranty claims against the seller of two chemical plants, and the representation of a bankruptcy trustee in lender liability litigation. He has represented clients in numerous business fraud and related matters involving common law and statutory claims of fraud and deceptive practices. He has also represented insurance carriers in coverage litigation involving environmental and construction defect claims.
Mr. Bixler is an active volunteer with the Philadelphia Volunteer for the Indigent Program and Senior Law Center and serves on the Philadelphia Bar Association’s Law Firm Pro Bono Committee. He also serves as an arbitrator for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Mr. Bixler also recently co-authored the Pennsylvania chapter of Product Liability Cases and the Duty to Warn: A 50 State Compendium, a publication of the Defense Research Institute (DRI).
Before entering private practice, Mr. Bixler served as law clerk to The Honorable Daniel H. Huyett, 3rd of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Bixler has been named in Chambers USA's America's Leading Lawyers for Business for general commercial litigation. He holds an AV® rating from Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized by his peers as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® each year from 2004 to 2008.
